Simultaneous interpreting
This is the most common form of interpreting for conferences. Normally, a team of two interpreters per foreign language listens to the speaker through headphones in a soundproof booth and translates what has been said into the target language, virtually simultaneaously. The listeners can follow the interpreters via headphones.

Consecutive interpreting
In consecutive interpreting, the interpreter takes notes in shorthand and presents the translation at the end of the entire presentation, using both memory and handwritten notes. This system is suitable for welcoming speeches at receptions, dinners, etc.
No technical equipment is required other than microphones.
The time needed is
considerably longer.
Conversation interpreting
In conversation interpreting, the speaker pauses after one or two sentences so that the interpreter - who is usually "only" listening intently and not taking notes - can provide the translation.
No technical equipment is needed.
Suitable for smaller meetings or private conversations between two people.
The speaker's flow is frequently interrupted.
Chuchotage (Whisper Interpreting)
What is said is simultaneously whispered in the target language, without technical aids, to one or two people, at most.
Because of the increased noise level, whisper interpreting can sometimes become a bit irritating, but it has great advantages if there are only single persons needing a translation.
